College Relations This Committee coordinates all efforts regarding how the Akron section interacts with the local colleges and universities.
Finance The purpose of this Committee is to review the Akron ASME section's books at the end of the year (July/August time frame) to ensure financial responsibility and timely filing of the year-end reports with national ASME.
Government Relations This Committee monitors both the state and federal governments to look for legislation that may impact mechanical engineers. In addition, members from this Committee take part in Ohio Council meetings. The Ohio Council is an assemblage of representatives from different engineering societies that takes an active role in Ohio's state government by acting as technical consultants.
History & Heritage This Committee records and maintains the history, traditions, and engineering landmarks of the Akron section.
Honors & Awards Each year, ASME recognizes the contributions of its members and the dedication of its volunteers through several awards. The Akron ASME Honors & Awards Committee performs the task of identifying and recognizing outstanding individuals within the Akron section.
Industry Relations The success of the Akron section depends in large part on the support of the companies within Akron ASME's area. In return, Akron ASME tries to assist the companies by providing services that benefit both the individual engineer and their employer. The Industry Relations Committee provides a vital link between Akron ASME and the local companies.
K-12 This Committee seeks to foster a link between Akron ASME and the K-12 classrooms in our area, by offering our services to interest young persons in future careers in science and engineering.
Member Interests (MI) This Committee periodically polls the membership to determine how Akron ASME can be of value to its members.
Membership Development (MD) This Committee deals with all aspects of membership development not of a professional nature. Areas covered by this committee include: ASME's personal financial programs, ASME's insurance programs, ASME's minority programs, and ASME's employment services. In addition, this Committee spearheads efforts to recruit new members into the Akron section.
Minorities & Women This Committee is responsible for promoting scientific and engineering careers to minorities & women.
Newsletter This Committee handles all aspects of gathering information for and publishing Akron ASME's monthly newsletter. At this time, it also coordinates timely feed of information to our Akron ASME webmaster at The University of Akron (host for our web site).
Nominating This Committee convenes each spring to get a slate of Officers and Directors together, upon which the membership is asked to vote before the April general membership meeting, so these new Officers and Directors can have a couple months' overlap with the current Officers and Directors. Note the administrative year is July 1 through June 30, with summers essentially off. This Committee is generally comprised of the Executive Committee and the MI/MD chair(s).
Professional Development This Committee looks after the continued professional development of Akron ASME's membership, by providing continuing education classes and referral to institutions offering ones our section does not offer.
Professional Practice & Ethics This Committee assists engineers in obtaining and maintaining their Professional Engineer's license, by disseminating information about the PE exam and PE refresher courses; and, promotes ethical conduct among engineers, by making available to the section information on ethical conduct and new ethics training aids.
Programs This Committee plans the programs for Akron ASME's monthly membership meetings; coordinates with the host site and speaker, including reserving meeting room(s), specifying food and beverages, and obtaining audio/visual equipment; and, takes the meeting reservations from our membership.

Technical Activities This Committee is liaison for Akron ASME with the ASME Technical Divisions. Each year, ASME broadcasts several satellite programs that cover a wide range of mechanical engineering topics. This Committee also handles registration and finance for the broadcasts.
