Advances in Medicine-Tissue Engineering Models of Human Digits, Ears, and the Knee

Joint meeting with ASME-CAM

Dr. William Landis teaches medical and pharmacy students, and is also heavily involved in research in orthopaedic medicine. The topic of discussion for the evening will describe his work in making body parts in the laboratory or, more properly, "growing new bone, cartilage, and tendon members to replace injured or diseased fingers, ears, or knees in the human body". The research involves animal subjects initially, with human trials left to the future His work requires methods of chemistry, physics, biology, materials, polymer science, and engineering. We are sure to find his subject interesting and informative.

Joint ADSPE/Akron ASME PE CPD Seminar

A discussion of the growing concern and challenges with CO2 emissions and energy cost and availability in the coming years. Will include a brief history of the related problem(s), a discussion of solar and wind power generation, along with concerns for the power grid and the need for electrical energy storage mechanisms.

A "Green Energy" CD ROM will be provided, with related information for the participants interested in further study. Completion certificates for PE's in attendance are available, for two (2) Professional Development Hours (PDH) "credit", upon payment, in cash, of a four (4) dollar fee at the door (to cover printing and mailing), in addition to the $25 admission. This will be available only after the seminar, and US-mailed to those who want it. The participants will need to sign an attendance log at the close, and send detailed information to Mr. Kusnerik by email with their name, registration number (and state), and US mailing address. Non PE's attending and wishing to receive a two (2) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certificate will need to do the same as above.

About the Speaker

A.J. (Tony) Kusnerik, P.E., Lorton Technology Inc., is a graduate of Fenn College (Cleveland State) and has been a registered P.E. since 1972. Prior to founding Lorton Technology, Tony spent 27 years with Ford Motor Company and retired as the Engineering Manager of the Cleveland Engine Plants. Prior to Ford, Tony served as a Process Development Engineer at Acme Cleveland and worked in developing high temperature/high pressure forming processes for high speed cutting tool materials.

Lorton Technology specializes in training and manufacturing consultation, including issues in production planning, cost and quality improvements of existing operations, and maintenance operation effectiveness. Lorton Technology is an NCEES registered provider of continuing education for Professional Engineers and has produced over thirty-eight (38) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars for several hundred PE's in Ohio over the past three (3) years.
