Dr. Husain is engaged in teaching and research at The University of Akron in the area of Power Electronics and Motor Drives. Prior to joining The University of Akron, he taught as a Lecturer at the Texas A&M University, and also worked for Delco Chassis at Dayton, Ohio as a consulting engineer. The primary expertise of Dr. Husain is DSP and microprocessor based controls for electric machines, especially switched reluctance and permanent magnet machines. He has worked towards the development of several indirect position sensing techniques for switched reluctance machines. He spent the summers of 96 and 97 working for Wright Patterson Air Force Base Aero Propulsion and Power Laboratory on switched reluctance starter/generators. He was a visiting Professor at Oregon State University in 2002. Dr. Husain also served as a consultant for ITT Automotive, Delphi Energy and Engine Management Systems,Goodyear Tire and Rubber Industry and Hy-Tech Industries.
