Why do I have an advisor in University College?
Most students are admitted into University College and are not admitted into the College of Engineering until their second year, when they have completed Calculus II. University College advisors are better qualified to advise students new to the university environment. University College advisors have schedules of courses for the first two years, for all engineering programs.
Which engineering program pays the most?
All engineering positions pay well, and the program should be selected to fit your personal preferences and abilities. It is impossible to predict which branches of engineering will be most in demand in 4-5 years.
How does math placement affect my schedule?
Starting in Precalculus, you can take Calculus II in the first summer to be ready for Circuits I in the Fall. Starting in College Algebra, you can take Circuits I in the Spring of the second year at the earliest, and it will require an extra six months to a year for you to complete an engineering program with engineering co-op.
What is General Education?
Its a liberal arts program of study taken by all undergraduates at The University of Akron, along with their major’s courses. Choices for General Education courses are listed in the University College pages of the University Bulletin and the University Web.
Shouldn’t I complete my General Education courses before taking my technical courses?
No, the sequence of math, science and engineering courses should be started with minimum delay. Schedules show where advanced General Education courses can be taken along the way. One or two General Education courses are normally needed in the senior year to make up a normal load.
What are Engineering Electives?
Courses selected from a list of engineering specialty courses. Choices must satisfy the breadth and depth requirements of the program.
