A. Full-Time Students
The Cooperative Education Program is an optional program available to all full-time engineering students at The University
of Akron who have met the following requirements:
Satisfactory completion of their freshman and sophomore years (66 credit hours) with a quality point average of at
least 2.3 out of a possible 4.0, and admission to the College of Engineering in their chosen curriculum.
On schedule in their curriculum.
Received acceptance by a Cooperative Education Coordinator or Director following a series of interviews.
B. Transfer Students
A transfer student must meet the requirements listed above, and have satisfactorily completed 16 credit hours of academic work
at The University of Akron, with a quality point average of at least 2.3 out of a possible 4.0.
C. Part-Time Students
Part-time students who have completed 66 credit hours, have been admitted to the College of Engineering, and who are on schedule
in their chosen curriculum, are eligible to enter the Cooperative Program. Once the students have entered the program, they are
expected to be full-time students while not on their co-op jobs.
D. Citizenship
The Cooperative Education Program is open to international students; however, such students should recognize that co-op job opportunities
for them are very limited in that most companies require U.S. citizenship or possession of a permanent visa.
E. Employer Acceptance
The Co-op office, upon employer request, will, according to reasonable guidelines established in consultation with the employer, make
an effort to propose and refer acceptable candidates for a cooperative position and will make available appropriate records and such
other information concerning applicants as the Office deems relevant or helpful. However, the final responsibility for interviewing,
evaluating, and selecting students rests upon the prospective employer. Furthermore, the University cannot assume any liability for
action taken by the student as an employee while on a cooperative assignment.
