Assistant Professor

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Akron invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level. Applicants for the positions must have earned doctorates in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an independent research program and to contribute to our B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs by teaching courses at both the undergraduate and the graduate levels and performing other academic duties. The areas of interest include, but are not limited to, (1) System Dynamics and Control with emphasis on manufacturing and instrumentation; (2) Thermal/Fluid Sciences; and (3) Advanced Power Systems with a manufacturing and/or design background preferable. The department presently includes 17 full-time faculty. It offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering in areas of specialization spanning thermo-fluid, mechanics of solids, vibrations, controls, and materials science and engineering. In addition, the Department offers, in collaboration with the Department of Polymer Engineering, a nationally unique program in Mechanical-Polymer Engineering.
